I particularly like alliums which grow to about three feet in height. Their broad green leaves start to show in April and they flower in late May or early June. They are a gorgeous deep purple. This particular year I decided to match their color with some trailing petunias of the same color.

The petunias don’t last the summer, but it’s a welcome addition to a spring garden. The alliums don’t last either but they leave a wonderful memory of themselves. You can see some that have spent their bloom and have left a beautiful starburst of seed pods behind, then they disappear until next spring.

A perennial gardeners delight, no dead heading, no cutting back. They arrive and then they go away. Perfect!
